In general, sinusoidal vibration tests are performed to explore the structural response of a given system to a varying excitation frequency input at a certain acceleration level. The data gathered from the appropriate locations of the system under test can be used to determine the modal frequencies of the structure that lies within the testing frequency range. The determined frequencies can either be used as input for design improvement and/or further testing at these frequencies to validate the robustness of the structure.
With random vibration test profiles, the system under test is excited for all frequencies at once within the defined test spectra for a given time and generally considered to be a good application for simulating the real-world environment conditions. In general, these type of vibration profiles are used for determining the robustness of the structure under the conditions of expected working environment, transportation, shipping etc.
